My mother, who was living with her mother and siblings in Seattle at the time of his disappearance, remembered the incident very well because it caused a huge family uproar. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Years later, after she&amp;#39;d married and had me, she often talked about the &amp;quot;curious house&amp;quot; that her Cousin Boyce had built &amp;quot;out in the Arizona desert.&amp;quot; And then she&amp;#39;d laugh and say, &amp;quot;The whole Gulley family is crazy, you know.&amp;quot; &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;But they also possessed some amazing genes for creativity and artistic talent. My mother was a successful interior designer in NYC and her brother a popular writer in the 1940s and 50s.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;And yes, they both were a little crazy. But delightfully so.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I&amp;#39;ve never seen The Castle -- somehow, all my extensive travels around the U.S. missed Phoenix as a destination. Your photos are absolutely wonderful. To be honest, I&amp;#39;ve never before even seen any pictures of Cousin Boyce&amp;#39;s &amp;quot;curious house&amp;quot; and now I feel as if I&amp;#39;d been there myself.
